For JDavis10 only. i need help on DQ 1 week 3 ACC 280 for particapation. I need feedback on this students DQ 1 below.
The Matching principle dictates that expenses be matched with revenues.
An example of the matching principle could include a business by the name of Cathy\'s House Cleaning, Inc. When using this principle it means that Cathy should report the salary expense incurred in performing the March 31 cleaning service in the income statement for the same period in which it recognizes the service revenue.
The Revenue recognition principle dictates that a company recognizes revenue in the accounting period in which it is earned.
An example of the revenue recognition principle would be if Cathy cleans houses on March 31 but the client does not pay for the service until April. When dealing with the revenue recognition principle, Cathy earned revenue in March when she performed the service even though she did not receive the cash until April. On the balance sheet at March 31 Cathy would report a receivable and revenue in its income statement for the service performed.
