Your Question
A student is trying to determine whether an unknown solid acid is Citric acid (a triprotic acid with the formula H3 C6 H5 O7) or Tartaric acid (a diprotic acid with the formula H2 C4 H4 O6) she starts by titrating a standard sodium hydroxide solution against a primary standard KHP ( KHP is a stable , solid monoprotic acid with a molar mass of 204.2 grams) she titrates 1.7892 grams of the KHP to its equivalance point with 17.08 mL of the sodium hydroxide solution. She then titrates .956 grams of the unknown acid to its equivalence point with 29.1 mL of the sodium hydroxide solution.
Question: is the unknown acid citric acid or tartaric acid , show calculations to support your answer.
